Bequests

One of the easiest ways to make a gift to Resources for Seniors, Inc. is by leaving the agency a bequest in your will. A bequest may be included in the body of a will or as an amendment (codicil). Gifts made through a bequest typically provide an estate tax deduction.

There are several ways you can make a bequest. You can leave a specific amount of money; give a specific item; or give a specified percentage of your residuary estate (the part which is left over after all specific gifts have been made). Simple language such as the following may be used to make your gift.

To leave a specific amount

"I give and devise to Resources for Seniors, Inc., or its successor, the sum of ____ Dollars ($______) to be used for such charitable purposes as the governing body of Resources for Seniors, Inc. deems appropriate; provided, however, that at the time of such a gift, Resources for Seniors, Inc. or its successor, must be a charity as described in Sections 170(c) and 2055(a) of the Internal Revenue Code."

To leave a percentage of your residuary estate

"I give and devise ____ percent (___%) of my residuary estate to Resources for Seniors, Inc., or to its successor, to be used for such charitable purposes as the governing body of Resources for Seniors, Inc. deems appropriate; provided, however, that at the time of such a gift, Resources for Seniors, Inc., or its successor, must be a charity as described in Sections 170(c) and 2055(a) of the Internal Revenue Code."

Of course, we do encourage you to consult with your attorney and/or financial planner before making such a change to your estate plan.
