Intake Process: For Relay, dial 711. For telecommunications equipment, contact the Raleigh Regional Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Service Area: All of NC served through one of the Regional Centers.

Program Description:

The Relay Program provides telephone accessibility for hearing or speech-impaired people. Can be accessed 24/7 via voice or TTY by dialing 711. Clients do not need to register first or install anything (except TTY if needed). Operator will assist callers by translating written communication into voice or vice versa. Info can also be accessed via: www.ncdhhs.gov/dsdhh/services/telecommunications.htm Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Service: This program provides equipment to assist hearing-impaired people to communicate by phone. This may include a hearing aid, or other equipment, such as amplified or captioned phones, etc. For hearing aids, must be NC resident who meets income guidelines, and must be able to use a hearing aid with a "T-coil" which enhances hearing on the phone.
