Program Details

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM
Eligibility: Must be NC resident who is not an illegal alien and meets income guidelines.

Intake Process: Call for details on eligibility. Provide written statement from eye doctor with visual acuity and diagnosis.

Program Description:

Provides independent living services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. As of 6/18/2014, this program does not help pay for eye exams or eyeglasses. However, some surgery and medication may be covered for those who qualify. Workers may be able to make referrals to other programs for exams and glasses. Eligibility is based on residency status and resources of the family over the past 6 months. Applicant must be a NC resident and not an undocumented immigrant (undoc immigrants must present form I-551 (green card or permanent resident card, or an I-94 with a temporary I-551 stamp). A Social Security card or Taxpayer ID card does NOT document legal residency.
