Program Description:
RFS contracts with Wake Coordinated Transportation Services to provide medical, grocery shopping, and nutrition site transportation. Must be 60 or older for all programs. Eligibility Requirements for Medical Transportation: Must be age 60 or older. Must live in Wake County outside the Raleigh and Cary city limits, must not have Medicaid or be Medicaid-eligible. Cannot drive and have no family members available to assist. Can be used for clients who need wheelchair transport when family is not able to provide this. There is an EXTENSIVE wait list for this pogram. Nutrition Site Transportation: Must be approved by Meals on Wheels and live within a five mile radius or on an existing route to qualify to be placed on a route. Client should contact meal site directly, NOT the MOW main office, to get on the meal site list. Grocery Shopping Transportation : Applies only to those who live in the following senior housing complexes: Roanoke Commons, Garden Spring, Sir Walter, Club Plaza, Cedar Crest, Glenwood Towers, Turnberry, Chadwick, Carriage House, and Berkeley Spring. Shopping is scheduled twice per month for each building.
