Program Description:

To apply, patients should call for an application or request one from the web site and mail it in. A drawing is held at the end of each month to select those people who will be allowed to apply for treatment. The applications of those not selected will remain active until the expiration date printed on the form, and will be entered automatically for three more consecutive monthly drawings. If an individual's application is selected, they will be placed on a waiting list for a screening appointment. During the screening appointment, the client's needs will be assessed, and could result in dismissal if the client's needs are either too simple or too complex. Wait time for treatment could take up to 9 months after the screening assessment. The treatment process involves long appointments (2-3 hours) and repeated visits, with an extensive time commitment. Prices range from 1/2 to 1/3 that of a regular dentist. May do dentures in some cases. Also has an emergency clinic and those emergencies can call right away. The goal is to help the patient alleviate the pain and assist in the emergency. These visits usually cost $100-$140. For dental emergency that involves pain or trauma to the face, call UNC Hospitals at 919-966-4131 and ask fr the UNC Dental Resident on call.
