Benefit verification letters must be obtained online or through the national toll-free number, not the local office. Website has comprehensive information, and many needs can be met without going to the local office, such as applying for Social Security and Medicare benefits and replacement Medicare cards. www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount allows users to set up a personal account and access benefit verification statements and other personalized documents. The site also includes a retirement estimator and other planning tools. Note: Appointments can be made by phone, but it is easiest to get through to the national toll-free number. Many services and forms are also available on the website. Representative Payee: SSA does not recognize Power of Attorney. An application to be named as Representative Payee for a Social Security Recipient can be filled out at the SSA office (online application not available).
