Program serving Medicare recipients who do not qualify for full Medicaid, but whose incomes are low. Depending on applicant's income, this program may pay for Medicare co-pays and deductibles, or may just cover Medicare Part B premium costs. Also known as Medicare-Aid, MQB, or QMB/SLMB/QI. To be eligible for benefits, applicants must have income below $1,206 for individuals or $1,624 for couples, and must have assets below $7,390 for individuals and $11,090 for couples. (Effective 4/1/17. Limits change yearly.) MQB-E income limits: Below $1,357 for individuals and $1,827 for couples, and must have assets below $7,390 for individuals and $11,090 for couples. Countable assets include: -property other than the home site -cash, bank account balances -certificates of deposit, stocks and bonds -trust funds -cash value of some life insurance policies Countable assets do NOT include: -home in which the client lives -household items -prepaid irrevocable burial funds -one essential vehicle Applications may be obtained online at: https://dma.ncdhhs.gov/medicaid/get-started/apply-for-medicaid-or-health-choice Can now also apply online at: epass.nc.gov Single people with no dependents can use the Short Form. *Note: Applications may also be made at Wake County Human Services.
