Program Description:

Adult Economic Services covers three areas: Adult Medicaid, Special Assistance, and Long-Term Care (Nursing Home) Medicaid. A. Adult Private Living: Medicaid- Private Living. This covers people living in private residences (houses, apartments, etc). See separate listing under Wake County Human Services/Medicaid/Aged, Blind, Disabled for details. B. Special Assistance Special Assistance pays for assisted living/ rest home care for individuals who meet the age, disability, income and asset requirements. If eligible, the individual will also receive Medicaid to pay for most medical expenses. There are separate guidelines for those in specialized dementia care. ELIGIBILITY: *Age 65 or older; or age 18 to 65 and disabled *Must reside in a licensed assisted living, rest home, family care home, or group home *Recipient of SSI, or ineligible to receive SSI solely because of excess income *Resident of North Carolina with the intent to remain *US citizen or alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence *Certified by a physician (with FL-2 form) as needing domiciliary care *Income and assets cannot be above a certain limit. Current cut off is $1,247.50 income (Alzheimer's $1,580.50) and $2,000 in assets; rates may change periodically -- call for current information. In the case of a couple, where only one person is applying for assistance, the income considered is that of the person who will be receiving assistance, not that of the couple. The community spouse is NOT allowed to retain part of the other spouse's income (as might be the case if applying for nursing home Medicaid). C. Long-Term Care Medicaid Nursing Home Medicaid will pay for long-term, skilled nursing home care for those who meet medical and financial eligibility guidelines. Income limits are more liberal than those used for Private Living and Special Assistance. If one spouse remains in the home while the other is placed, income and asset protection would apply, allowing the home-dwelling spouse to keep some resources. Ask for a long-term care specialist to discuss how asset protection works. *Note: Applications may also be taken at the following locations: Eastern Regional Center, 1002 Dogwood Lane, Zebulon (919-404-3900) Northern Regional Center, 350 E. Holding Avenue, Wake Forest (919-562-6300) Southern Regional Center, 130 N. Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina (919-557-2501)
